In reply to Mia. Thanks for your question, Mia. To be honest, ground dried shrimp isn’t an ingredient I’m familiar with, so I’m not sure how it’s typically used. Sorry I can’t be more helpful on this one.

Hi Wei, Please could you explain how to use ground dried shrimp? Does it require rehydration? Or can I throw it straight into a stir-fry while cooking? Thanks for your time

In reply to Nick. Good question. I usually rehydrate dried shrimp first for soups. And the soaking water is very flavorful, so you can add it to the soup as well.

Hey, I know this page is old so if you don’t reply I understand.
I was just wondering if I was going to add regular dried shrimp to stock or a soup, should I rehydrate them first?
I’m assuming for a stock it would be fine (since it will be simmering for hours), while a soup I should rehydrate?

I recently got a rice cooker that makes congee and I wondered if these little shrimp might work well in a congee. If so would the process of making the congee be “soaking” enough or should I still pre-soak?
