I’m so glad you’ve been enjoying the recipe, Chris! Pork shoulder steaks sound like a great substitution.

I love this recipe and have made it a number of times now. Easy, low prep, and always comes out delicious 🙂 I have been using pork shoulder steaks and spring onions, because that is what is available in my area overseas.

Cooked this last night. Came out as good as anything I’ve had at a Chinese restaurant. Delicious.

In reply to Wei Guo.

My mom was originally from Nanking and I’ve been looking for a good recipe for her Hong Shao Pork Chop for awhile. This come close. Thank you for posting it.

I used two bone-n pork loin center cut chops (1.1lbs combined). I adjusted the measurements accordingly. I also changed the final step. I turned the stove to low and cooked it probably 20-30 minutes. I kept turning the chops and make sure they’re cloaked with the seasoning during that process. The result was pretty good. It’s tender and the taste is good even though it’s not deep into the meat as Hong Shao is. Do you have a Hong Shao pork chop recipe? I would love it.

Oh yes, fennel sounds like a great addition.

Hi Wei, this is a delicious recipe! I added some shallot and fennel, because I had it (and love fennel with pork) and it was wonderful!
This is a keeper. Cheers!
